Yulu Shao
Founder
Yulu Shao is a multidisciplinary designer whose practice moves fluidly between art, craft, and design. Born in China and educated in Canada, his work is shaped by a cross-cultural perspective that resists fixed disciplinary boundaries.
Rather than treating design as a problem-solving exercise alone, Yulu approaches it as a critical and cultural practice. His methodology is research-driven yet intuitive—each project emerges from its own context, informed by layered cultural narratives and contemporary discourse.
Operating beyond conventional design frameworks, he develops objects and systems that challenge the separation between function and expression. His work is distinguished by its ability to translate abstract thinking into precise, material outcomes that carry both intellectual depth and emotional resonance.
As a founder, Yulu is less concerned with producing products in volume than with defining a distinct design language—one that bridges strategic clarity with artistic sensibility, and positions design as both a cultural statement and a commercial force.
He believes that the most relevant work today does not sit neatly within categories, but exists in the tension between them—where design becomes a medium for meaning, not just utility.
